1. Sterilization of precision medical devices

Laparoscopes and endoscopes usually contain precision optical components, electronic components and plastic structures, which cannot withstand high temperatures and high pressures (such as steam sterilization).

1. Balance of concentration, temperature and time
Within a reasonable range, increasing the sterilization temperature or ethylene oxide concentration can shorten the sterilization time, but excessive temperature or concentration should be avoided to cause material damage or safety hazards.

In practical applications, these three parameters should be optimized according to the characteristics of the sterilized items (such as material, structure, and packaging method) to ensure that the sterilization is thorough and does not affect product performance.

2. Accurate control of humidity
The relative humidity of the sterilization environment is crucial to the sterilization effect of EO, and is usually controlled between 60% and 80%. Too low humidity will affect the penetration and reaction efficiency of EO, and too high humidity may cause EO hydrolysis failure.

The following measures can be taken to adjust the humidity before sterilization:

Pre-wetting treatment: Place the items to be sterilized in an environment with a humidity of more than 50% for more than 2 hours to reach an appropriate moisture content.

Dynamic humidification: A humidifier is used during the sterilization process to maintain a stable humidity level.

3. Cleanliness requirements for items
Organic matter on the surface of items (such as blood and protein residues) will hinder the penetration of EO and consume part of the sterilization gas, reducing the sterilization effect.

Microorganisms wrapped in inorganic salts or crystals are more difficult to be killed by EO, so the items must be thoroughly cleaned before sterilization to remove all contaminants.

For complex instruments (such as endoscopes and catheters), a multi-step cleaning process (such as enzyme washing, rinsing, and drying) should be used to ensure that there is no residue.
